Britain's Food Reserves

On the day of adjournment in the Iouse of Commons this morning, Mr. nain was asked whether he was arranging for primary responsibility for the policy as to food reserves to be assigned to the Minister n charge of the department dealing with the subject, in the same w hat primary responsibility for the number of battleships, aerop: anes, or units of the Army was assigned to the Departmental Minister. Mr Chamberlain replied that, while he did not altogether accept the analogy n the latter part of the question he had reached the conclusion that primary responsibility for policy as to food reserves should rest with the Minister in charge of the Department which carried out that policy.

"I propose to take the opportunity of relieving, in some measure, the very heavy burden that now rests on the President of the Board of Trade, and to make arrangements whereby the responsibility for the Food Defence Plans Department will e taken over by another Minister.

"The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr. W. S. Morr5on) is going to take over this duty."—Wireless and Reuter.
