Destruction and Pillage

Ghastly scenes of destruction and pillage greeted the eyes of the first Japanese troops which entered the Japanese Concession at Hankow, Domei reports received here yesterday from Hankow disclosed.

All Japanese homes and other establishments in the Japanese concession were systematically destroyed, the reports claimed, while Japanese properties in the former British Con-Cession, including the Mitsui Bussan Kaisha building and the Bank of Taiwan, were singled out and expertly demolished.

A Japanese-owned spinning factory in the former British Concession, the reports stated, was made a particular object of the "scorched-earth" policy of the retreating Chinese. The fa tory, acco: ding to the reports, was destroyed beyond recognition.

The joy felt by the ps in finally reaching Hankow, the Domei report said, was clouded by the scenes of utter destruction.
