London, Dec. 19.
The Canadian Expeditionary Force, which arrived at a British port on Sunday, were enthusiastically welcomed as they streamed ashore in thousands from the great liners that had carried them across the ocean.
The fleet of transports was guarded by a formidable squadron of the navy, while R.A.F. planes patrolled overhead, on guard against possible surprise raids.
The troops represented every part of Canada and included some Americans, Red Indians and coloured men who had served in the last war, but the majority were youngsters.
They were drawn up on the pier and heard the General Officer Commanding read a message of welcome from the King, who said: "The British army can be proud to have as comrades in arms the successors of those who came from Canada in the Great War, and fought with a heroism that can never be forgotten."
