Italian Suggestion

Rome, Oct. 31.

The suggestion that Japan was about to propose that the Nine-Power Pact should be revised was made yesterday in "Messaggero" which stated:

"It is evident that the new situation in China will demand the adoption of a different basis between the signatory Powers of the Pact.

"Japan," the journal continued, "ought to enjoy a special position in Asia, in view of her fresh responsibilities, which have been assumed at the cost of huge sacrifices."

Japan's attitude in this matter, the newspaper adds, will be clarified in a Note to be issued shortly.—Reuter.
