Postponed from last week-end on account of rain, the CSF. Open Hardcourt Tennis Championships will "get under way today with sixteen Matches scheduled, Four Courts at the French Club will be used and should see almost continuous competition throughout the afternoon, "his tournament, an annual one "which marks the close of the Shanghai tennis season, promises to be usually interesting this year because f of the record number of entries, including the best foreign and Chinese players in the city, Today's time schedule follow; 130 pm.—K. T. Tsai v. B. Krenov on urf d; Y. Segalen v. Z. L: Sia on court H, Collaco v. P. Oliveira on court 5; A. V. Guterres v. B. K. Wallace on Court 6.

3 pħ—T. C. Chang v. R. D. Boyer Mrs. Collaco v. Miss B. C. Lo on court 4; Li R. E. M. Ward v. Gordon Chen on court 5; F. Shafter v. T. H. Chen on court 6.
345 p.m.—Carson and Squires v. Moore end Capi. Willamson on court 3 Rosenzweig and Krenov v. Woo and Woo on court 4; H. K. F. Li v. In Lee on Court 5; V. G. Taussig v. Indric court 6, The first three races are for 1938 griffins, the first one at % mile with all winners barred. The other two are handicaps, distances being 7 furlongs, and 1% mile. In the furlongs race a small field is expected, but in each of the other two races at least ten or more may weigh out. Winners may be Rabais, R. B. Mollers mount, and Port Bradda. The fourth race, at 1% mile, may see White Parade, Merry Jester, and Roehampton fighting out the finish, possibly in this order.
'The 2 miles' race comes next and should prove a most interesting one to watch. Twenty-five ponies have entered, including some of Shanghai best, and a fair-sized field may be seen out. Conditions of the race allow good class ponies, such as Gold Vase, Mou Tan Hua, Night Express, The Swan, and Un Un Un to weigh out with a 6lb. allowance, whilst others, including Duke of Cornwall, Cottonlight, Merry Memories, and White Wine can all go out with a 15 lb. allowance. It is an open race, but I think it may finish with Gold Vase winning, followed by The Swan and Un Un Un.
The Criterions is the sixth race on the card, and in this clastic mile I expect to see Bober (G. P. Gram), Cordon Rouge (H. Maitland), Frostylight (R. B. Moller), Merrylight (C. B. Moller), Rye (A. F. Clark), and possibly Benlomond (L H. Howell). And this six must open up prospects of making a really good and interesting race, and give scope for free betting in not only the win and place departments of the pari, but in the forecast pool as well. Frostylight can be relied on to run well, but I think the finish will be between Merrylight and Cordon Rouge, and I think this is how the result will read, unless Rye springs a surprise on all.
The last three races are for third class ponies, entries for all good, suring full-sized fields, without any pony in either one of the race standing out as hot favourite. Winner may be Sober Morn, White Majo and Drumalla, with Houdini, Eh ion, and Port St, Mary all
