Editors generally are dusting off their collections of time-worn platitudes for public consumption—and we are also guilty—but there is little evidence of a "Happy New Year" in any quarter of the world—excepting, of course as an expression of hope for better times to come. The subject, "Prospects for 1940" is discussed editorially in this week's issue of The China Weekly Review, and in' addition Mr. John Ahlers, the well known writer on economic questions discusses the question of "Free China's Outlook for the Coming Year."
