Soviet attackers actually fought their way into a Finnish Staff headquarters near the front, but were 5 back with heavy losses by Staff officers and their assistants, an order-of-the-day issued by Marshal! Karl von Mannerheim reported today. The order cited Colon: l Per Ekholm for personal courage in the battle and conferred the War Cross on him.
While there was a lull in warfare along the Karelian front today, Finnish troops in the Suomissalmi region continued their advance against the Red Army and in other s: ctors teat off several Soviet attacks, a Finnish General Staff communique announced tonight.
