More Russian Advisers In Sian

City Little Damaged by Japanese Bombings Tsingtao, Jan. 10.

The number of Russian military advisers in Sian, capital of Shensi, has been considerably augmented in the past few months, according to a party of foreigners who have just arrived in Tsingtao. They travelled by way of Chengchow and Kaifeng, passing from Chinese into Japanese-controlled territory.

The city of Sian, the travellers stated, far from having been "obliterated," as claimed by the Japanese after their heavy raids during October, presented a comparatively normal appearance.

The Drum Tower, age-old landmark in the centre of the town, has had one of its corners blown away; the Y.W.C.A. Hostel has disappeared—only a crater remains; the Bank of China and the modern Guest House have been damaged. Otherwise, there are few signs of destruction, The visitors added that the morale of the people continued to be amazingly high. Merchants, however, were experiencing considerable difü- culty in obtaining goods to sell—Reuter.
