Berlin, May 13.
The number of persons gainfully employed in the Reich rose by 677,000 to a total of 21,280,000 in April, the latest report on the situation of the labour market, published today, shows. The report also reveals ce tinuance of the labour shortage, there being insufficient workers to fill the jobs offered.
The rise in the number of employed workers last month does not mean that the 677,000 persons given jobs were previously unemployed. These new labour recruits are mostly youngsters who have finished school, or men and women who previously were independent or in receipt of pensions. The shortage of labour still is felt most seriously in the agricultural districts, where soldiers and labour servicemen had to be enlisted as farm help.—Trans-Ocean.
