Paris, Jan. 14 In the opinion of French political quarters the Japanese Cabinet crisis reveals the unsettled state of Japanese politics as a result of the Chinese problem.
French observers point out that Japan is now at a cross-roads with extremists in favour of a rapprochement with Soviet Russia and of a strengthening of the Berlin-Tokyo axis. This would be tantamount to Japan's taking a position against Britain and France. Moderate quarters supported by business interests wish to maintain trade relations both with the Western Powers and with the United States as necessary of Japanese economy.
Admiral Mitsumasa Yonai's agreement to form a Cabinet was not ce mented upon as yet but Tokyo political quarters had considered that two men only could be the most suitable Premiers at the present time: Prince Fuminaro Konoye who enjoys great popularity, and General Shinroku Hata, The fact that these two statesmen refused to form a Government shows the gravity of the present crisis, French political quarters concluded.—Havas.
