London, Nov. 26.
Lord Elibank, formerly President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire, has put down a motion in the House of Lords urgently drawing attention to the grave situation of British interests in China and asking Lord Halifax what has been the result of his promise to the House of Lords on July 27 to take measures to protect these interests. The motion will be discussed on December 6.
In the course of a debate on foreign affairs in the House of Lords on July 27, Lord Halifax said that the "British Government is already considering possible action open to us if we do not secure adequate consideration for the interests which we have a right to protect."
"We have every right," he added, "to expect the Japanese to recognize that, if they have certain interests to protect, we have the same. We are not unmindful of our responsibilities, which we have every intention of discharging."—Reuter.
