Aged Couple

Victim Believed Former Government Official

Believed to be a former official of the late Peking Government, Zee Chung-bing, aged 61, and his wife, Zee Shen-sze, were removed to the Red Cross Hospital shortly after 8.15 am. yesterday after being attacked by three desperadoes, whom the police believe intended to murder the husband.

Both victims of the attack are suffering from severe wounds inflicted by an axe, with which one of the three men who entered the residence, was armed. Their injuries include a lacerated scalp. face and hands and various cuts on different parts of the body. They are expected to live, however, in spite of the seriousness of the wounds.

The attack occurred at 8.15 am. -when the three men broke into the house which is situated at Lane 64, House 10, Za Ka Jao, off Hart Road. Holding the aged man and his wife at pistol point the man weilding the axe proceeded to strike his victim with the instrument and as Zee's wife attempted to save her husband she, too, was attacked.

Both victims were left lying on the floor of the room and they were discovered there sometime later when an alarm was sent to the Bubbling JWell Police station, who. despatched an ambulance and a squad of de-tactives. Upon arrival at the house the police made investigations around the district but could learn practically nothing of the attack as very few people were about at the time. The motive so far is unknown but investigations are continuing. factory constructed purely with "wood" and releasing incessantly huge volumes of smoke, The surrounding area is not only dirty and unpleasant to live in but literally the residents are suffocating under such insanitary conditions. The factory could not possibly be built without the knowledge of the Council as it is situated in the very area blockaded by the S. M. P. against the Central Weaving and Printing Factory.

If the Council at present has difficulties in the way to exercise its complete control over the Western Areas, it should readily follow the constructive suggestion made by Mr. Harris that an arrangement be made with the public utility companies not to supply water, light and power to factories which are a nuisance to the nearby residents.

The Council authorities, we trust, can do something to safeguard our health if they are determined.
