Repeated Rescue Efforts

Uotsuri Island is 110 miles northeast of Keelung and 226 miles southwest of Naha, capital of the Loochoo Islands, The island has a circumference of eight kilometers, The Aso was a regular airliner between Japan Proper and Formosa.

Upon receipt of information of the forced landing yesterday, another Douglas plane, filled with food and clothing, left Taihoku for the island. A large bonfire apparently built by ihe survivors was sighted on the island, but the heavy plane rolled so much in the high wind that it was impossible to drop the provisions Several ships rushed towards the scene last night but none could find any trace of the wrecked plane or the occupants, These ships included the Toyokuri Maru, the Ayaha Maru and the Soma Maru.

This morning the Douglas plane left Taihoku again and this time succeeded in dropping the provisions after locating the survivors.

High waves, rain and strong winds also hampered rescue operations from. the sea. The Keiun Maru, however, picked out a safe spot on the south Side of the island and put out four boats which returned with all thirteen. survivors.

Passengers aboard the Aso were reported to have included Major Takeo Shoji, a member of the Ordinance Bureau of the War Ministry, and Mr. Shigeru Yonezawa, Chief of the Engineering Bureau of the Ministry of Communications.

"The Aso crew was composed of Mr. Toshio Kuroiwa, chief pilot; Mr. Ryoichi Mori, ce-pilot; Mr. Haruyuki Soga, mechanic, and Mr. Hideo Senda, radio operator.—Domei Danube Commission Meeting Soon Bucharest, Feb. 6.
