Changchun, June 6.
Immediate cessation of "provocative actions" by Soviet troops along the Manchoukuo frontier was sought in a Protest made by Mr, Tatsuichi Kohno, acting Manchoukuo Foreign Affairs Commissioner in Harbin, to M. Rogoff, acting Soviet Consul-General.there, it was learned here today.
This step followed reports of clashes along the eastern border of Manchoukuo on June 3 and 4 as a result of alleged incursions by Soviet troops. This activity on the eastern frontier was attributed here to a desire by the Soviet authorities to divert the attention of the Japanese and Manchoukuo forces from the Lake Buir area where Outer Mongolian troops were repulsed after fierce engagements from May 28 to 31.
Reports of—Soviet-Manchoukuo clashes have been accumulating rapidly since the firing by the Soviets at Manchoukuo gunboats on the ¢astern border on May 10. These were followed by alleged attacks on Manchoukuo vessels on Lake Khanka and at Suifenho, coupled with frequent reconnaissance flights by Russian aeroplanes over Manchoukuo.
