Adolf Hitler's New Year was heralded by the customary firing at midnight in front of his home at Berchtesgaden of jo miniature cannon, dragged up the mountain by villagers, dressed in Bavarian national costume.
The peasants sang national anthems, and Herr Hitler shook them by the hand and wished them a happy New Year.
The glorification of Herr Hitler as the Man of Destiny "whom Germany will follow most obediently," and a scathing criticism of "those Democratic carpers who never tire of dragging National Socialist Germany before the bar of so-called world conscience" were the features of a New Year proclamation broadcast over all German stations by Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda.
