Sentiment appeared to be more friendly on the Stock Exchange today. However, the volume did not show any expansion, but the market retraced about one-quarter of last week's losses in the Dow-Jones Industrial Average in a session of dull trading. Activity was centered on leading steels, motors and rubbers, and the Street ascribed the recovery to technical factors. The progress of the Tax Bill has somewhat encouraged new buying and short-covering. Business news was favourable, and less attention was paid to the Far Eastern situation, despite the continued tenseness of the situation. Meanwhile, observers believe that the Stock Exchange will follow the banks in event the latter decide to close on Saturdays during the summer months.
