Parsees Make Good Start

The Pürsees began very well indeed and 83-runs^were on the board before the wicket fell Charna was out after a splendid innings of 51, which included one six and seven hits to the tape. The board then read 116, and with R. F. Shroff hitting out to good effect, the match seemed a certain three points for the Parsees.

The Police began their innings before tea in good fashion, Pearson experiencing some difficulty in finding a length at the start. Pitts and Fairbairn put on 25 for the first wicket at two-a-minute before the latter was out for obstruction; five runs later Pitts was well caught on the boundary by P. V. Simpson off a huge hit, Pearson being the successful bowler in both instances.

After three overs, Cantopher came off and Pearson changed to the top end, Tremlett, a medium-paced left-hander, coming on at the Bubbling Well Road end. The change immediately met with success, a brilliant catch by Day on the square-leg boundary retiring Barton who was just beginning to see the ball well Day ran some 15 yards before holding the ball, which he did very low down A few minutes later Gash, who appeared set for a big innings, was Out in identical fashion from a ball that pitched on the leg stump. Gash did not quite hit the delivery properly and the ball went plumb into Day's hands on the boundary.

At this period of the game the Police had scored 54 for four wickets, and they still seemed to have a fair chance of securing the three valuable league points, but after Dean had caught Peasgood with a very fine effort in the slips off Pearson, a deadly rot set in, and only Sevenoaks appeared comfortable nst the attack The last six wickets fell for only six runs, the final five partnerships adding but one, Tremlett being responsible for the damage caused wit! his accurate trundling.

The last five batsman all record "ducks" and though Sevenoaks attempted to keep the bowling t" himself, he was finally beaten by Trem-lett to give the Wanderers their Arst S.R.C.
