The Commissioner of Public Works S.MC., reports for December that the reconstruction of damaged Bridge No. 38 on Monument Road, in timber, was completed. The replacement of Bridges Nos. 54, 44 and 45 on Monument Road, by 3 ft. diameter culverts, was completed and Bridge No. 35 was replaced by a length of 12 inch diameter drain. The replacement of Bridge No. 2, Rockhill Avenue, by a 4 ft. 6 in. diameter culvert was completed. Work on the replacement of Bridge No. 10 Hungjao Road. by a 2 ft. diameter culvert, was commenced.
Sewage Works—At the Western District Sewage Works the construction of six new sedimentation tanks was continued. Concreting of the walls and work on laying of the inlet end sludge pipes were continued.
Buildings—At the Hongkew Fire Station, 560 Woosung Road on Cadastral Lot 1151, Northern, the structural work and ihe heating and electrical installations have been completed. A tender has been let for the supply and installation of wall tiling.
At the Central Police Station, 185 Foochow Road on Cadastral Lot 174, Central, the alterations have been made to provide additional office accommodation for the Narcotic Section.
At the Gordon Road Police Station and Training Depot, 511 Gordon Road, on Cadastral Lot 3840, Western, a temporary building has been erected to provide office accommodation for the issue of rickshaw and handcart licences.
At the Municipal Jail, 147 Ward Road, on Cadastral Lot 1970, Eastern, work is proceeding on the installation of a second padded cell in the Jail Hospital.
