Chungking, Feb. 3.
A lone Chinese aeroplane flew over Waichow Island on the morning of January 31 for the purpose of observing the movement of Japanese warships, according to a Chinese dispatch. The machine met with heavy anti-aircraft fire from Japanese warships, it says, but returned to its base safely.
The number of Japanese warships, transports and air raft carriers concentrated at Waichow Island, the pilot of the plane is said to have reported, totalled over 30, with about '20,000 Japanese troops aboard.—Reuter.
