Bucharest, Apr. 4.
The decline in the Rumanian crude oil production, which began in 1936, continued yesterday, and all efforts thus far to raise it have failed.
'A commission of experts surveyed the situation yesterday in view of the pressing demands for export of the oil.
The machinery for drilling oil wells was lacking, it was expected that Germany would bring great quantities of machinery to start drilling at a rapid pace on the land allotted her under the Wohlthat Trade Treaty, but so far there has been little activity.
'A leading oil engineer and expert yesterday stated that during the first three months of this year production has been 5,840,000 tons yearly. He said he did not foresee a larger figure by the end of 1940.
Production in 1935 amounted to 8,394,000 tons, in 1936, 8,704,000 tons, in 1937, 7153000 tons, in—1998. 6,600,000 tons, and in 1939, 6,240,000 tons. The decline has been steady since the peak year of 1936.—United Press.
