Market Reactions

Belga, Guilder Easier — Sterling Steadier But

Thin; Neutrals Selling New York, Nov. 10.

Both the belga and the guilder on the New York Foreign Exchange market today felt the weight of capital seeking refuge in the United States, as a result of fears of a German flanking attack through the Low Countries, The three months forward rate on guilders was quoted today at 185, discount, compared with yesterday's quotation of 60. However, the spot rate held steady at 53.08, owing to strong official control, as the Bank of Holland is believed to have transferred a large part of its gold to the United States last year, acting as support against the flight of capital.

The belga declined sharply, being listed at 16.08, against yesterday's level of 1645, whilst the three months forward rate widened from 30, discount, to 45, discount, The decline of the belga was due to reports circulated that there was a large demand for the dollar in Brussels, both from people seeking to leave Belgium and to the shift of capital.
