Deep was the discouragement in the hearts of Jesus's friends. He had pokan words of cheer. He had said, "Be of good comfort, I have overcome the world." And it looks now as if He was hopelessly crushed by the powers of darkness. The disciples had looked upon Him as a light to ighten the nations and the glory of His people Israel. He said that He was the light of the world and now that Light goes out in the darkness of the graves, Hardest of all was their disappointment in their Master. He had said once and again that He would rise en the third day, but in their grief and confusion they forgot that, He had said, "I if I be lifted up from the vill draw all men unto myself." gospel shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations" And now He is dead and buried and what could be said?
The disciples were scattered, each one in his disappointment thinking his Own deep thoughts. The women were shedding silent tears. When they met together, if they met, there was nothing to say. Their hearts were too full for words. It was the zero hour.
The heavens were black, without one star of hope.
