Copenhagen, Dec. 21.
Information reaching here from Latvia indicates that according to eliable sources, the crack German liner Gneisenau—which is well-known in Shanghai having been on the regular Far Eastern run before the war—and which had left Riga on December 2, was sunk either by an unknown submarine or a mine, while on her way to Germany with refugees.
fishermen, according to these same reports, declare that the luxury-liner sank within a few minutes and that all passengers, including 100 "Arbeitsdierist" men, were drowned or killed by the explosion.
On the other hand, it is confirmed that incendiary bombs were placed on the German steamer Sierra Cor-dopa having been concealed in emigrants' luggage. Various versions were circulated in Riga but the Latvian authorities observe the greatest discretion regarding the whole affair—Havas.
