Blockmakers Go Slowly

Several hundred block makers employed by more than 20 block-making establishments, practically all of which are located in the Settlement, declared a go-slow strike yesterday at 10 a.m. They presented 19 demands four days ago and when their managements did not answer satisfactorily they struck yesterday. The most important demand urges that their wages be increased by $70 each plus a rice allowance of $50. The management tried to meet them half way but the strikers held out. They also demanded a subsidy of $500 for their newly established union taking orders from union workers of the new Chinese regime.
