Fifth Extra Race Meeting Today

White Starter Selected As Probable Winner in Steeplechase By "Cumc"

The Shanghai Race Club is today holding its 5th Extra Race Meeting with the first saddling bell at 1.15 p.m. The racing opens with a steeplechase, which is a handicap. and the distance is twice round. Nine ponies have entered including Steve Brodie who is handicapped at 175 lb. with which weight I hardly expect him to win. The race looks good for the A. V. White starter, with Keep Off possibly getting a place. The 2nd race is at 34 mile for subs, of which twelve entered including Second Thoughts, who may win. Buffalo is dangerous, and Lezginka and Uncle John are good to place.

The 3rd race is the 'E' class handicap to be ridden by novice riders only. Two likely ponies are Grenadier and Port Bradda, whilst a likely rider is Chen Poo. The 4th race is at X mile for griffins, here Citylight seems a good one to support, with Zeppelin to place. The 5th race is also for griffins but at 1% mile. The finish may be between Northwood, Fleeting Bow, and Vim, in this order.

The 6th race is the 'D' class of the handicap and in the entry will be found Sootylight and Evesham each with a 5 Ib. allowance, which seems generous to both though in heavy going it would hardly suit Sootylight.

The 7th race is the 'C' class of the handicap, and this is a difficult race to pick. However I will couple Little Joe and Night Raider as two likely ones.

The 8th race is the 'B' class of the handicap, and here Anything Goes may start and win, provided he can hold and beat Democratic Prince and Busted Straight in the run in The 9th race is the 'A' class of the handicap. The condition of the going will have some say in the question of certain ponies starting. However I think all the following will weigh out Bagshot, Benlomond, Bober, Cordon Rouge, Corps Cavalry, Don Pedro. Flyinglight, and Night Express. I think Cordon Rouge will win, with Don Pedro and Flyinglight placing.

The 10th race is for griffins at 9 furlongs. Columbus may not start, in which case Neckarland may be a useful each way bet. The lith and 12th races are for subs at 9 furlongs, and 1% mile, as many are entered in both races. I will lump them together. and name Andy, The Sketch, Spic light, and Tiddly Winks, as a likely four
