Guerillas Destroy Coal Mines

Serious Damage Done in North China; Military Train Wrecked

Peiping, Apr. 20.

Wrecking of trains and the blowing up of coal mines are among the latest activities of the Chinese forces in North China.

Travellers arriving by the Peiping-Hankow Railway describe seeing a long military train "completely wrecked" at a point a few miles to the north of Paotingfu. Apparently, they state, the train had been derailed during the last few days.

Completely reliable foreign sources learned last week-end that Chinese guerillas captured from the Japanese garrison the Toh coal-mines, 25 miles to the south-west of Peiping.

The guerillas are reported to have held the mines long enough to explode charges in all the shafts, completely wrecking the mines, before fled to the hills again.

The Japanese have been obtaining considerable quantities of coal from these mines during the past year.—Reuter.
