Mr. Bertram Lillie By the death of Mr. Bertram Lillie B.Sc. Eng. Born on the Tyneside on November 5, 1905, Mr. Lillie was educated at Sunderland Technical College. where he took his degree. He then proceeded to India as a railway engineer, residing in that country for three years before returning to England to take up a teaching appointment at Leicester. From Leicester he was appointed to the Cardiff Technical College.

In 1933 he came to Shanghai where he supervised the erection of the Henry Lester Institute, returning Home in January 1934 to select a staff, which proceeded to China in July of that year. Mr. Lillie organized the usual entrance examinations and the first student was received in October 1934.

Under his guidance evening classes were established in November 1934 and later Mr. Lillie organized both day and evening courses in mechanical engineering, civil engineering and building, the first course being completed in July 1937, at that time Mr. Lillie being absent on Home leave.
