Races Included

According to decisions made at the Executive Committee Meeting of the Shanghai Track and Field Association (International), which took place yesterday evening at the Foreign Y-M.C.A, this year's Open Championships will be run off in an elaborate programme covering two day's of competition on May 27 and June 3 on the grounds of the Shanghai American School.

The Association has also made reservation for June 17 and 24 in case any postponement is made necessary.

Yesterday's meeting was presided over by the new president, Mr. L. F. Bright. It was mentioned by the hon. secretary, Mr. Robert Z. K. Sze that Owing to present commitments and the short time of stay in Shanghai the East Surrey Regiment ig unable to become a member of the Association. The Seaforth Highlanders, however, are prepared to join and they will be the only British service team entering.

"As the forthcoming competition will last two days, four new items were added to last year's list of events, thereby making the total eighteen. The new events will be'the 440 yards middle hurdles, the two mile run, the 4220 yards relay and the 400 shuttle relay. The shutte relay has never been seen in Shanghai before. It is a most interesting event on the Relay Carnival programme in the United States and should be liked by local followers too.

Entries to Close May 22

The task of arranging the programme was given to Messrs. George Chow, Harold Brown and Billy Tingle. Each team desirous of participating is requested to send an application to the hon. secretary, c/o St. John's University, together with an entrance fee of $10, not later than May 22, at noon.

In track events each team is entitled to enter two men while three athletes are allowed for each field event. With the exception of the high jump and pole vault, each field event will have four trials for every participant and there will be no preliminaries.

The scoring is based on five points The finals of the senior and junior squash rackets championships will be held at the Race Club on Friday commencing at 6 p.m. the senior match between L. H. Wade and E. B. Cumine preceding the junior game between G. Beckerman and T. E.

Baker. These two matches will complete the season although it is hoped io hold a match between the Race Club, champions of the year, and a team composed from the remaining teams which entered the contest this year, On the date of the latter match, it is expected the Annual Squash Rackets Association dinner will be held to conclude the season.

The final between Wade and Cumine will be a very open affair with Wade slightly favoured in view of his improved performances recently although the two have been playing each other recently and neither can register more match victories'than the other. It should be a good contest to watch. The match between Beckerman and Baker similarly brings together two players who have doubtless played each other on countless occasions as both play for the Foreign Y.M.C.A. and are in the second division team for first, three for second, two for third and one for fourth. In relay races the points will be doubled.

Spectators are to pay an admission of $1.10 (including tax) on each day of competition, To the American School for the grounds, $50 will be paid and the rest will go to expenditures.

Messrs. Brown and G. H. Wade were appointed as Managers of the meeting. Messrs. L. F. Bright and Robert Sze are in charge of naming officials while Mr. K. S. Chang, the hon. secretary, will look after the printing of tickets and the awarding of a prize for team championship, A complete list of the events this year follows;—
