Increase $149,840:—The main items contributing to this increase are as follows:
'Pay and Allowances (Increase $145,900)—Of this sum $107,720 ne' to provision for high cost of living and. rice allowances on the basis recently authorised. Two other contributing factors ate the inclusion {in this. section of the Compradore's Collecting Allowance of $19,800 and in increase of $12,452 In the provi. sion for charges relating to Special Services of Police Constables.
"The Compradore's Collecting Al-Jowance was originally based on the 'Tocl/Dollar' difference in exchange ged all departments automatically re their proportion og expenditure was incurred. Upon the abolition of the' Tuel the allowance was con olldated as a General Charge but it now considered more appropriate to show. the full cost of the Com. Dradore's Office. Provision for the allowance has therefore been includ. ed-in this section for the first time.
These ind. provide for the engagement of three odditional shroffs.
Administration Building ~This heading appears for the first. time and covers expenditure previously included "under Pay Chinese—Com. Pradore, Shrofts, ete.
'Miscellaneous' (Increase $2,700).—This heading includes provision for Fuel, Bight, Water, Telephone Ser~ vice, Stationery ete. and the increase required to cover the higher costs of these commodities and services.
In addition to normal requirements, 'a sum of $6,060 is provided for neces. tary office equipment to safeguard important Municipal records and for furniture required at Branch OMees.
The estimates for the Finance Office, Revenue OMice and Compradore's Mice have been approved. by the Finance Committee and Council.
