Funeral services for the late Ton-hinese policeman, Ngyuen Xuan-Thu, who. it will be recalled, was fired upon by one of two suspicious looking foreigners on Route Pottier shortly after 11 pin. on Tuesday, were held on Friday afternoon at the Zikawei cemetery in the presence of M. Brediam, Director General of the Concession's Municipal Services: Commanders A. Fabre and Castel of the French detachments; M. Eh. Grosbois, Commanding Officer of the French Volunteers; M. L. des Courtils, Administrative Director of the F.M.C; Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners as well as Chiefs of stations and delegations from the various branches of the French Municipal Police.
One French and four Chinese constables preceded those carrying wreaths, whilst a guard composed of Tonkinese members of the Force escorted the hearse. Two sections of the Russian Detachment of the French Police also formed part of the guard of honour.
The procession started at the mortuary on Rue Delastre "and proceeded to the cemetery by way of Route Frelupt, and Route Tenant de la Tour.
Commander Fabre, Chief of the French Police, placed the F.M.C's Gold Medal with which the deceased had been decorated posthumously on the coffin, After a short speech by M. Fabre, in which the deceased was praised for his courage and excellent record of service, a Tonkinese member of the force also spoke a few words and said that Ngyuen's name would now be inscribed in the Golden Book of those who fell in the preformance of their duties.
