Closure of Indo-China Route Not Feared China Said Able to Carry

On Resistance

Chinese press comments press the view that Japan's alleged blockade of Indo-China and Burma will not affect Chinas war of resistance, but that it will offend the United States so seriously that Japan may face the serious problem of having her American supplies suspended entirely.

In an editorial entitled 4 blockade of Indo-China and Bur ma" the "National Herald" opines that the very attempt indicates that Japan has no strength to expand southward by sea, being so much involved in the China incident that she wishes to settle it as soon as possible. It is predicted that a Blockade of Indo-China, where American supplies to China pass through, will cause Washington to adopt a stronger policy which will make Japan think that it does not pay to blockade the French port.

Guerillas Self-supporting It is asserted that the alleged blockade will not affect China's resistance, because China depends on foreign support only to a very small degree. The paper points put that even guerillas operating in Occupied areas are self-supporting, capturing guns from the enemy. The conciliatory attitude adopted by France and Great Britain towards Japan is criticized.

Inspired news articles appear in leading Chinese newspapers boce asserting that the Japanese action will affect China very little, because China's most important international route isto Russia which is already linked with Chungking. It is also asserted that China is self-sufüicent in firearms after three years industrial reconstruction in the interior of "free China."
