Third of Budget Expenditure Allotted to Armaments Ankara, Feb. 4.
National defence accounts for over one third of the total expenditure in Turkey's budget for 1940-41, according to an announcement by the Minister of Finance.
The Budget, which is to be introduced in the National Assembly on March 1, totals T£54,000,000, an crease of £2,000,000 compared with last year.
The chief item is an appropriation of £19,000,000 for national defence. This is an increase of £1,000,000 over the previous years, but it does not include unused credits outside the Budget still available and estimated at about £30,000,000, and £20,000,000 worth of armaments due from Britain and France under the recent tripartite agreement.—Reuter.
