Reds Continue Offensive

Despite the heavy toll of life they suffered, the Russians are continuing their mass offensive against the Mannerheim Line under the command of General Stern, who does not seem to be willing to spare the lives of his men, the.war correspondent of the "Svenska Dagbladet" reported today.

Regarding the bombing of Finnish civilians by Soviet planes, the "Social Demokraten" in an editorial today branded the Russian atrocities and declared that it is becoming more and more necessary for the democratic world to come to the aid of the Finnish people for democracy would betray itself if the Finns were left'alone. The Russians have already lost one thou. sand pilots, the paper added, and this represents a hard blow for the Soviet air force. Soviet bombing squadrons are now defended by pursuit planes when operating over Finland owing to the increasing number of counter-attacks launched by the Finnish air force. Another Soviet innovation is the use of air torpedoes two metres long which, upon exploding, release a number of small incendiary bombs.—Havas.
