Peiping; Feb. 4

Over 5,700 people have registered with the Peiping municipal slaughter house for pork since January 15, as a result of which the slaughter house is sending representatives to the suburbs to purchase pigs to relieve the shortage.

Prospective buyers are finding difculty to procure pork in the market, the approach of the Chinese New Year having caused a heavy demand for pork.

One of the other reasons for the meat shortage is that a large number of pigs have been shipped to Tientsin, where pork is sold at considerably higher prices than in Peiping.—Reuter.
