Repairs on Kiukiang Railway

Kiukiang, May 20.

Railway communication from here south to the banks of the Siu river, two-thirds of the distance to Nanchang, was resumed on Thursday when a 27-kilometre stretch of track between Tehan and Yungsiu was reopened to traffic.

The first train left here at 6 o'clock on Thursday morning and reached Yungsiu at 11 o'clock.

With all rails and sleepers removed by the Chinese before their retreat. the restoration of this railway proved one of the major engineering transport problems that confronted the Japanese forces.

The section between Kiukiang and Tehan was reopened on January 26.
