Hkong Wins Interport Rugger

Late Shanghai Rally Fails to Avert Defeat

Spectacular -Break-Away by Bidwell Shanghai, Feb, 10.

BEFORE a crowd of some 1,500 spectators at Kiaochow Road Park on the morning of Feb. 8 on a pitch that was a sca of mud Hongkong, in the thirteenth of the rugby interport series, defeated hanghai by eight points (one goal and one try) to six (two tries).

The Colony were rather lucky to win on the run of] the play altho it must be admitted that they deserved to do 80, their virile and non-stop tact tics completely balling the tactics of Shanghai for two-thirds of 1 the game. The match was fought at a fast pace throughout strangely enough it was the Hongkong backs. th: won the encounter for the southerners.

The ultimate winn urs persisted throughout in getting the wet, greasy ball back to their outsides here it was that they had a decided advantage over Shanghai. In f fact the Hongkong backs won the day for their forwards, who, alth jough always trying hard, were not, quite as good as those of the northerner This victory marked the seventh for the Colony since the ialtiation of the series: both ports had gained six leys on, the Saker Shield, The Hongkong forwards did very well indeed! ona pitch that was against good football, but in the last twenty minutes when the visitors were eight points ahead, they were completely outplayed and Shan! were unlucky of to have gained the Gay. There was an. clement lotibt about Hongkona's goal. it appearing to many present that at least three Hongkong forwards were offside immediately before Rodman went over under the posts, while near the fof the game it seemed that Kennedy. the' Shanghai centre, scored quite a legitimate try which was not allowed.

The encounter never reached great heights and quite a number of friend-games have been seen on the Race Course this season 1 have been far better in quality thie look than awaited struggle.
