A report from Hongkong published by the "China Evening News" yester~ day stated that the Japanese chief Inspector i Indo-China had presented a written demand to authorities of the French port asking that the Japanese be allowed to use the mil tary harbour and aerodromes in the port. French authorities in Hanoi were said to have cabled to their home Government for instructions.
The same paper reported that past few days going from Hainan slond towards the Gulf of Tonkin and Kwangehowwan, trying to force the issue. Chinese troops were stated to be prepared for any eventuality
