London, Aug. 8.
4¢PQY sheer weight of the vast war machine, which they have created, the Germans have overrun large areas of Europe, and have overrun, for the time being, the great bastion of freedom on the Continent which the French people have maintained for over a century," declared the Fi A. V. Alexander, speaking at rst Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. a public luncheon in London yesterday.
"This country as an outpost of the British Commonwealth, and aided by Allied contingents, whic! h escaped the successive strokes of the Nazi scythe, now constitu tes the only organized bulwark against the type of European policy and State, which is German; immediate aim, and which would be a threat to and would possibly involve other nations overseas.
Only behind this bulwark can forces be mobilized and organized, which will later remove the monstrous threat to liberty, which confronts the world.
"Nazis have already enslaved the populations and made a desert of several once fertile and flourishing parts of Europe. As they look out across the narrow waters of the Channel to the white cliffs of England, they must often wonder what of time, and effort still separate them from the full achievement of conquest, which would make the countries of the world their tri-butanes, and countless nations their slave markets," he stated.
Mr. Alexander then went on to tel! some of his reasons for believing that the Nazi goal will never be realized.
