Buy Aircraft

Numerous Campaigns Said Inspired by Magnificent Achievements of R.A.F.

London, Aug. li.

On Friday night, British heavy bombers made munition factories at Ludwigshaven and Cologne their main objectives. Sustained attacks were made by strong forces of aircraft which, after inflicting heavy damage, left the factories in flames.

Nearly 15 tons of high-explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped on a factory in Cologne in the course of a series of raids which began at 1045 p.m. and continued until shortly after midnight. Within a quarter of an hour of the first attack, the target was ablaze, and following aircraft had no difficulty in locating the objectives and adding to the damage.

jer, straddling the muni-works with a line of heavy calibre bombs, started' an intense white fire which ended in a heavy explosion.

Another violent explosion, continues the Air Ministry, was seer to break out on the eastern edge of the target, while other crews reported that bomb bursts were followed by brilliant explosions.

Inspired by the magnificent achievements of the Royal Air Force, all Britons appear to be buying aeroplanes for presentation to the Government.

Following the donation of £100,000 by -Mr. Garfield Weston, MP. for Macclesfield, for the building of 16 Hurricanes and Spitfires, an appeal has been made to mothers of airmen to contribute to a fund to provide for Hurricane "planes.

This appeal was made by Mrs. V. F. Gower, whose son, serving with a Hurricane squadron, is missing.

A man named Ralli of Frimley Park, Surrey, who saw a raider aimlessly dropping bombs, has sent Lord Beaverbrook; Minister for Aircraft Production, £5,000 for Spitfires.

Towns everywhere have started funds to buy aeroplanes. Hendon last night started a £20,000 fund for four Hurricanes.

Lord Beaverbrook himself has sent £100 to the hews agents' Spitfire fund, which aims at raising at least one complete squadron.—Reuter.
