Tokyo, Aug. 10, The reaction of the public in Japan to the withdrawal of British tro) in China can best be described aw "mildly pleased."
Japanese circles declare that it has generally been supposed that Britain would take this step sooner or later following the pointed recommendations made to her by Japan on two Occasions. Britain's action also has been ascribed to reason of expediency and, It was stated, would hardly affect the prevailing anti-British feeling in the country.
According to the "Asahi," if Britain is really desirous of a reconciliation with Japan, she must fundamentally reorganize her policy towards the Far East and genuinely ce-operate with Japan in her programme for the blishment of a new order in East Asia. It has been assumed in Japan, that the withdrawn troops would be sent to Hongkong or Singapore.
