Fine Record of French Navy Emphasized

Naval Minister at Paris Reviews Situation

Paris, Mar. 7.

Control by the Allies of all the seas except the Baltic, fear by the German fleet to leave its bases, restriction of German submarine, plane and mine attacks to merchant shipping only, these are the results of the past six months of naval warfare as outlined at a press conference today by M. Cesar Campinchi, the Navy Minister. Out of more than 2000 ships escorted in 300 convoys by French warships only 4 were sunk, M. Campinchi stressed.

Not a single French warship has been sunk by the enemy, and only fifteen French merchant vessels, totalling 71,000 tons, were lost. As the French Navy seized 18,000 tons of German shipping, the net loss represented only 2 per cent of the country's merchant fleet. Since 12 German submarines have been sunk by the French navy, the ratio is about one German submarine for every French merchant vessel sunk.—
