Imperial Smelting Corporation will benefit considerably from proposals of the Import Duties Advisory Committee summarized in The Financial News yesterday, The necessity for an export rebate fund arises from the fact that the increase of 17s. 6d. in the import duty will raise the price of zinc to consumers by that amount and will involve some increase in the price of goods containing zinc. For ex porters of zinc-containing goods this would represent an important handicap, and the object of the export rebate fund is to avert the necessity for increasing the export prices of zine-containing goods by paying to consumers a sum equivalent to the amount of proposed duty increase on the tonnage of zine exported.
