In actual operation this Declaration is assisting Canada to maintain and increase her war purchases in the U.S.A.. both on her own behalf and that of Great Britain. Canada's imports from the United States during 1939 were valued at $497,000,000. In the present fiscal-year they are expected to reach $953.000,000. a very large part of which is for war purchases. It ig interesting to note that Canada is not taking advantage of the Lend-Lease Act as long as she can fud the U.S. dollars with which to pay cash, But the Hyde Park Declaration has a significance beyond its financial importance to Cahada, It is expected that the U.S.A. and Canada, each concentrating on the materials of war which it can produce best and most quickly, will become one strong team. working and producing according to a carefully planned programme which will ensure the most rapid possible supply of war materials to Britain and other embattled democracies and the most efficient provision of defence articles for North America.
