Map showing position of Saddle Islands.
North and South Bays taken from North North Saddle Light House is one of the three big lights guarding the entrance to the Yangtze River. Listed as a 24 mile light, its loom has been seen for about 40 miles. First established in 1870, it was modernized in 1916 and in 1929 a wireless radio beacon was installed. The power of the light is rated at 740,000 candle-power and it is shown from a height of 273 feet above sea level. In foggy weather a powerful compressed air fog signal is operating and can be heard fora considerable distance. (Right) The cutter "Kerr" at anchor in South Bay.
