Rise in June

Summer diseases showed the usual seasonal rise during June. with tyhold fever predominating and the dysenteries already exceeding epidemie figures, reports the Commissioner of Public Health.

The first two cases of cholera in the Shanghai area were notified and confirmed in the Municipal Laboratory during the month. The patients had arrived in Shanghai a few days earlier, coming from the Shao Shing district, One other cot Chinese case occurred in the Settlement, the source of infection being reported to be contaminated food purchased from a hawker.

The factors likely to affect the occurrence of cholera epidemics in Shanghai have been closely studied over a number of years, but as it has not been possible to predict the course of events with any degree of certainty, one cannot say whether the disease will be prevalent in Shanghai this summer or not, the Commissioner continues.
