Cruel Example of Poland

Mr. Eden went on to quote extracts from some of the rules established by the Nazis in Poland: first, Poles are obliged to make way before the representatives of German authority, as the streets belong to the conquero! and not to the conquered. Secondly, the Polish inhabitants of the male sex are obliged to show their respect for Germans by uncovering their heads. Third, Poles are forbidden to use the German form of greeting, and fourth, Germans must be served first in shops and markets.

The Dominions Secretary also contrasted the treatment of the German minority in Czechoslovakia the treatment of the Czechs Under Czech rule, the Ger-were allowed to use their schools and language, while in Bohemia and Mora the Czech language is suppressed.

He pointed out that if Germany won the war the next few centuries would contribute bloody pages of violence and bitterness to history, while he declared that if the Allies won the possibility of progress would be maintained. It is unfair, he concluded, to say that the Allies are fighting to maintain the status quo of the world, British imperialism is not a relic of the past but a bridge to the next age. It is a source of comradesbip and opportunity of service to the whole world.—Havas.
