Suner's Visit to Berlin Linked with Reports of Firm Stand by Vichy

Washington, Sept. 18.

London, Sept. 18.

British bombers have been laying mines in German-occupied harbours from the French coast to the Bay of Biscay, it was revealed by the Air Ministry news service today.

Over 30 separate mine fields have now been laid, it is stated, and it is known that thousands of tons of enemy shipping have been destroyed by them.

Mines are said to have been laid "within a stone's throw of shores, within some of the enemy's territory, and sometimes within strictly preserved and heavily-defended waters"

Before these mines were laid, R.A.F. bombers made long reconnaissauce flights over long stretches of seas.

During the laying of the mine fields, only one or two aircraft were lost.

This the Air Ministry declares, is a high tribute to the skill of the aviators.—Reuter.
