Life in the Ocean

The next thing to be considered is the distribution of life in the seas of this general region. In this connection there are two main faunal zones, one a more or less tropical one and the other a more or less arctic one. The fish and other forms of animal life found in the seas off China mainly belong to the Indian Ocean and the more tropical part of the Pacific, while to the east of Korea they are mainly North Pacific or even Arctic. This is due, apparently, to the set of the currents, a warm current flowing northward along the China coast into the Pechihli Gulf, and a cold one flowing south from the Okhotsk Sea along the East Manchurian and' Korean coasts.
