ENERAL Sir Edmund Ironside has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of Home Defences, and General Sir John Dill, Vice-Chief of the Imperial General Staff, takes his place as Chief of the Imperial General Staff. General Sir Walter Kirke, present Commander-in-Chief of Home Defences, is to retire.

It is explained in well-informed London circles that the changes have been brought about by developments in the military situation and the necessity of placing the defence of Britain against possible invasion, in the strongest possible hands.
