Police Arrest Kidnap Suspects in Wayside

Young Boy Makes Daring Escape From Captors

Presence of mind on the part of an eleven-year-old boy and prompt action by a squad of detectives from the Central police station resulted in the unravelling of a mysterious kidnapping and the arrest of three suspects yesterday.

The young boy named Zung Kongchun, living at 359 Hankow Road, disappeared on the morning of May 21 on his way to the Wu Ting Primary School at 514 Foochow Road. His parents made a report to the police three days later when the boy failed to show up.

While the police were checking on an eye-witness story told by a news vendor of the kidnapping of a young child on Foochow Road, the family of the missing boy received a letter from the kidnappers, in which a sum of $50,000 was demanded for the child's release. Two negotiators were sent by the Zung family to Soochow, but nothing transpired in the subsequent negotiations with the kidnappers.

Then suddenly the boy appeared at his home yesterday morning and toid his relieved parents of how he had escaped from a house in East Yuhang Road a few hours earlier while his guard was asleep. A prompt report to the police resulted in a raid at the house and the arrest of a male and a woman, who had kept watch over the boy, and a suspect.

It was ascertained that the kidnappers used a hire car in whisking the boy away on the morning of May 21. The car was found to be the one which was taken forcibly from its chauffeur on the same morning the Kidnapping took place. The boy had been kept in the house im East Yuhang Road since the day of his FRIDAY,
